Great show, despite what others say, especially if a show like ER doesn’t appeal to you. House is a unique character to be appreciated among the saps of TV nowadays.

I must say something to Hugh Laurie. People complain about his accent. He’s English playing an American. I lived in England for a year on exchange. I’m an American. Though I’m no expert on accents, I have to say I didn’t notice that Hugh Laurie had any sort of English accent. A slight accent can show if you’re really looking for it, but, other than that, he’s version of an American accent is great.

House is a great show, but it’s not for the weak of heart or weak of stomach. It’s not like ER at all. House is like the Sherlock Holmes of medicine. It’s a drama without the screaming and tears.

Heroes S04E10 Brother’s Keeper – RMVB

I just watched this today (recorded it from last night) and quite honestly, I’m pleasantly surprised. I was convinced the hype machine would kill this show, building up expectations so high they could never be met, but Heroes has measured up nicely, hitting on all marks in my book. I’m as a huge a 24 and House fan as is out there, but Heroes may have just taken TV’s top billing in one night.

I must admit, shows now-a-days tend to go down hill after the pilot, but NBC’s latest offering seems to have set itself up with a concept and tone that could carry on strong, at least for a season. My initial reaction was that we would either see clichéd super hero garb or some awkward NBC drama soaked in hero juice. What we got instead was a surprisingly good pilot that brought enough “hero material” to live up to its name, but not too much as to make us think we were watching an X-men ripoff.

The writing and the interweaving plot and characters is compelling and interesting, nothing dumbed down, but nothing contrived either. The direction fits the concept perfectly, it grabs you as much as it should, without being distracting. The acting is most surprising in that it’s actually good. Masi Oka, who plays “Hiro Nakamura”, is quite possibly the best of the cast, though he never speaks a word of English (unless you count “Spock”). Overall the cast is nothing big on paper, but they all manage to hit their marks well.

Last but not least, there were some pop culture references and nods to comic book lore that just made me smile. There seems to be a very cool hero/comic book hip feel that makes you trust the writers on this one.

Again, shows have been known to start strong and fall off soon after, but in this case, Heroes has made a strong enough showing that everyone should check this out.

When my boyfriend tuned into the premiere I thought the show was going to be stupid. I was so surprised. This is the first TV show to really showcase nerds with pretty much dead on accuracy. This has a sparkling cast (Jim Parsons is the new and improved David Hyde Pierce) and fantastic humor that ranges from light slapstick to seriously quick wit. This show is a great love letter to nerds, and as such any nerd should give this a try. With a bunch of new (and very lame) shows debuting, it’s good to see something worth watching! This premise isn’t exactly new but the execution is nothing short of brilliant. Give it a shot!!

I am a great lover of disaster movies and until now thought that this generations brand of disaster movie didn’t hold a candle to the 1970/Irwin Allen run of them – Posiedon Adventure/Earthquake/Towering Inferno. Sure there had been a few that were not bad, independence day/the day after tomorrow/ Armageddon but nothing earth shattering… Boy am I eating my words. This movie was in my opinion, the Best disaster movie I have ever seen. I give it a 9.5/10. I would have given it a 10 if Chiwetel Ejiofor had of punched Oliver Platt! Boy did he deserve it!! With a fantastic cast, including Danny Glover, John Cusack – who incidentally was awesome in this role, Amanda Peet, Oliver Platt, and Woody Harrelson playing Charlie Frost, end of the world radio announcer and totally nuts, and h plays him so well, and someone I had never heard of before, Chiwetel Ejiofor, who played the major scientist of the piece. Not to forget the rest of the awesome cast, each of them adding to the layers of the storytelling. The movie was kept rolling along by telling the stories of several independent characters all facing the end of the world as we know it. The graphics were by far the best character of the movie and if you saw the trailer you would get just a hint of how exciting it is. I sat down at the start and said to my mom that if what we had seen in the trailer was all we were going to get when it came to excitement i would be very disappointed. Well I all the excitement I could handle…. and more! The story spent the first hour setting the premise for the film…. the world was ending… and the last hour and a half was spent holding on to my seat, squealing, ducking and weaving in the times of action, crying at the more poignant moments, getting angry at others, as we followed the stories of the characters. I think this movies stirred up just about every type of emotion. It was awesome. I have no doubt i will go see it again. Do yourself a favor and watch it on the big screen! Don’t waste your time waiting for video, or watching it on the small screen. This Has to be seen on the big screen, with the big sound. It adds to the movies hugeness as much as everything else. I would not be surprised if we don’t see some awards for the special effects for this movie. So, grab your popcorn and soft drink and get yourself settled because you have an hour to sit quietly after that all hell breaks loose!!!!

How I Met Your Mother Complete Season 4

I’ve enjoyed the first few episodes of this post “Friends” comedy. It really captures some of the humorous albeit awkward situations that late twenty-somethings are finding themselves in these days.

Alyson Hannigan once again presents her hilarious, quirky sense of style and humor. Along with her boyfriend, Marshall, they are an excellent representation of the couple who are trying to figure out an identity in the “not still partying like college kids, but trying not to be all grown up” stage of life.

The lead character, Ted, provides great entertainment. Audiences will be drawn in by his sensitivity and likability. He’s not desperate to get married, but merely ready to find the One, tired of game playing.

Overall, I think this is a half-hour well spent. The humor is edgy, unpredictable, and you will find yourself reminiscing about those first few years after you graduated from college and struggled to find yourself out in the “Real World.”

How I Met Your Mother

Someone over at the WB must have finally pulled their head out of their A$$.

Smallville, is a very intriguing, genuine, original show with intelligent characters, superb acting, excellent story lines, and the ability to be the new best show to ever come out of WB…Buffy being the first.

Tom Welling shines as Clark Kent. This virtual nobody is dynamic on the screen. His raven colored hair, and big blue eyes, and exception physique make him perfect eye candy for anyone and everyone. However, his acting is stand out as well as his looks. He isn’t someone that is resting on his looks to get him somewhere in Hollywood. Though, he very well could.

John Schneider is back on the small screen in a big way. Though, the show doesn’t focus on him or his character, it is good to see him in this show…as well, Annette O’Toole give a great performance as Clark’s mother.

Michael Rosenbaum blows up as Lex Luther. I haven’t really followed his career. I really have only seen him in Urban Legend. He delivers the deception, and human evil that is Lex Luther.

I really think WB has stumbled onto something good. FINALLY!! How many garbage shows are now on, or have been cancelled from the WB. Too many…I think they really have something here…I hope to see this show go thru the roof!

Stargate Universe S01E08 Time – RMVB

I’ve watched every episode of SG-1, every episode of SGA and thoroughly enjoyed most of it. Yes, it could sometimes be repetitive, cheesy or downright stupid, the special effects made me laugh from time to time, the “science” made no sense, aliens spoke English… But it WORKED. The main reason for me were the characters. They were interesting and likable (both in the regular sense of the word and in the love-to-hate way), there was chemistry between them, and the viewer really cared about what happened to them. Most of the time their actions made some sense and you could see them as people.

That’s where SGU fails. The similarity to BSG, lack of humor, the claustrophobic feel of the one, confined setting, the sex that seems to be put into the show for the sole purpose of pointing out how grown up SGU is, compared to its predecessors – those are obvious problems as well, but I could live with that. I’m not so devoted to the previous shows that using the ideas they developed in something completely different offends me. What does offend me is a show where I wish something really awful would happen to the main characters, because they are so badly written.

I’m watching episode 6 (I actually stopped in the middle to write this comment, because I was so annoyed) and by now there isn’t a single character I feel any kind of connection with. Those who were annoying from the start are rising to new heights of jerkiness. And the ones I was beginning to like act so inconsistently and unreasonably that I lost all sympathy for them. If it were based on their personalities, I’d have no problem with it, but it’s not. It’s sloppy writing, full of clichés, cheap tricks and “imaginative” twists and turns of the plot – I know it was supposed to make the characters more interesting and original. Instead they are just about as alive as your average brick and as consistent as a schizophrenic on crack.

Eli, who was rather charmingly goofy, lost and too smart for his own good, in this episode is a spoiled brat, whose solution to a problem is yelling “We’re gonna die! We have to do something! Why aren’t we doing something!” at people.

Scott has random sex with random girls and a back-story that makes me cringe.

Rush has mood swings that have nothing whatsoever to do with a quirky personality and all with bad writing. Too bad, he was the only one I had real hope for and Carlyle actually can act.

Young is a reasonable and strong leader one moment, only to slip into a clichéd “On your feet, soldier! We’re gonna save them or die trying’!” American officer the next.

Telford thinks it’s his duty as an officer to contradict Young’s orders and undermine his authority every time he can, even if he has little to no information about what’s going on on-board Destiny. If I were one of the soldiers under his command, the only think that would stop me from punching the little jerk in a face would be the fact that it’s also Young’s face…

The minor characters seem to think that People In Charge know everything and can actually fix all their problems without breaking a sweat, but won’t, out of spite. So of course, the right course of action is yell at everyone, blame people for things they have no control over and demand to be taken home, right now. Or else. *sigh* And don’t even get me started on Greer – he must be one more victim of the C-class writers, I shudder to think anyone might want to write him that way on purpose. The man is clearly psychotic, we have no idea why, and if he were on my side, I’d join the enemy just to avoid being in the same room with him, because he’d make my skin crawl and I’d be afraid he’d shoot me in the head just for fun.

All in all – I’m only sticking with SGU for now, because I’m eagerly awaiting the episode where some big, slimy monster gets on-board Destiny and starts picking off the crew, Nostromo-style. I’ll make popcorn and cheer for it…

I love this show. I didn’t know if I would like it or not, because I’m not a big ER fan, due to the depressing parts, however “Grey’s Anatomy” has a lot more depth to it on so many levels. Let’s face it, who really wants to talk about death? This show involves some humor, unlike ER, but you also get the blood and guts popping out, very sad moments, more involved stories about the DR’s personal life’s, issues that are bombarding our medical care in this country today and the great music puts it over the top. It’s more of a “tug at your heart strings” kind of show when it comes to death and also there are some politics involved, which i highly think should be brought up in this day and age-such as being a full donor and saving peoples lives, rather than rotting away. I’m actually surprised it’s not a David Kelly Show (Boston Legal) – it seems like something he’d create. Anyway, you have to watch this show- it’s completely addicting– and I only watched it since i like Patrick Dempsey on the off chance it may be a good show–Wow, was I pleasantly surprised. I did also like Boston Legal, but not nearly like “Greys.” Hopefully there is room for both of them on Sunday nights.

The audience is a jaded lot these days. The torture/gore horror genre is ever escalating to new heights trying to find a nerve that hasn’t been pressed yet. The Fourth Kind goes a different direction. It tries to get under your skin, to instill a sense of dread. My compliments to the director/writer for trying a new approach. It isn’t what you see, it is what you don’t see and our imaginations are called to the forefront. The performances are great. I really like Milla Jovovich and seeing her outside the action genre was great. She puts her heart into this. Elias Koteas is always good and once again his presence on screen is solid. Enzo Cilenti has been a favorite of mine since Late Night Shopping and I loved his seeing his intense work here. Hakeem Kae-Kazim was terrifying in Hotel Rwanda and I loved seeing his strength on screen translate to comforting this time. Great new talent in supporting cast as well. Osunsanmi’s direction is original. The score is seamless. A great scare with disturbing moments and parts that make you jump out of your seat.

Forget everything you think you know about Michael Jackson. Forget the scandals, the surgeries, the rumors, the mysteries. Just accept that we’re all innocent until proved guilty in America and let it all go. Michael Jackson was the greatest dancer in the history of mankind. This documentary shows that hours before his death, he remained the greatest dancer in the history of mankind. He was a revelation, pure and simple. And the greatest achievement in Kenny Ortega’s simple, elegant tribute is that it allows the viewer, without a shred of distraction, to witness the process of an artist. Sure, some of the footage is a little amateurish, as this was meant for Michael Jackson’ records more than anything else. But that’s the fun of it. The viewer gets to witness the raw nature of the artist rather than the glossy outcome that would have been the final product. If you’re concerned that the film will be an act of gross exploitation and an attempt to squeeze every last dime in the wake of Michael Jackson’s death, know this: I haven’t the slightest doubt that Michael would have wanted his fans to see this footage. Of course it’s exploitive, don’t fool yourself into thinking otherwise, but so what: All documentaries are exploitive to some degree and tasteful exploitation is better than tasteless exploitation. This is a film about the process, nothing more. We’re just lucky that this process happens to revolve around the finest entertainer of our time. If you’re even the slightest fan, this is a must see. If you’re not, I dare you not to be won over. Also, if you’re looking for signs of fatigue from Michael Jackson, you will be disappointed. In fact, if there’s one thing that bothered me about the film, it’s that Michael was in such terrific shape that it’s angering to think he died so close to the finish line. We don’t have many great entertainers left in the world. And the fact that at 50 years of age, operating at about 80% energy wise, Michael blows the top 10 pop singers of today out of the sky, is rather remarkable. Prepare for an emotional and downright exciting concert-film. “This is it” will show the world that with all the noise, all the distractions, all the craziness: Michael Jackson still had it. And then some…

A Christmas Carol 2009 TS-RMVB

Greetings again from the darkness. This is a stunningly visual film with animation that will take your breath away. My eyes could hardly keep up with the opening credits as we “flew” through the city. However, as amazing as the film looks and as wonderful as the Jim Carrey voices are, the film still lacks something.

What may have happened is that some of the Dickens story was cut due to costs and the desire to concentrate on Scrooge. I am not saying it was a mistake, it just prevents us from ever connecting to the plight of Cratchet (Gary Oldman) or Scrooge’s nephew (Colin Firth).

One thing is for sure, the spirits are frightening. Marley’s spirit will have kids running for the exits or hiding behind parents. That will probably hurt the film as it will need kids to build any type of box score.

Definitely worth seeing for the visuals, but certainly not in the top versions if you really want to capture the spirit of Dickens’ novel.

A creative and revolutionary television program that could best be described as “High Noon” for the 21st Century X and Y generational groups starved for cinema-like ideas and executions. “24″ (representing the number of hours in a day) runs an hour a week, in real time, and advances to a staggering climax as an anti-terrorist specialist (Kiefer Sutherland) races against the clock to save the day. Assassination attempts, germ warfare and anti-American enemies are constant obstacles for Sutherland, daughter Elisha Cuthbert, president Dennis Haysbert and an innumerable cast of others. Regulars come and go, guest stars make lasting impressions and cliff-hanger sequences will leave you gasping for air and possibly grasping your chest to calm your heart down. So many things happen over the course of one day on this show (you would not believe everything that goes on over such a short period of time) that it is sometimes hard to remember everything and at times many situations are trivial anyway (there is so much time to fill that it is near impossible to make every minute count). Sutherland and Haysbert (who made their names on the big screen) are top-flight performers and they prove to be the biggest assets. Excellent direction and good scripts (for the most part) have lingering effects on the audience as the clock ticks and tocks to a mind-numbing finale each season. 4.5 out of 5 stars.
